State Investment

Given the tremendous growth of the Latino population since 2000, state leadership must ensure that Latino children, families, and workers have adequate access to all of the benefits and services that they are eligible for in Illinois.

In many cases, such services are contracted or granted to nonprofit organizations that administer programs on behalf of the state.  Unfortunately, the state government does not collect and report sufficient information to track the use of state services by race and ethnicity across all programs, making it difficult to capture the degree to which services reach Latino residents. In response, the Latino Policy Forum has been tracking Illinois’ investment in Latino-led nonprofit organizations since Fiscal Year 2009.  The Latino Policy Forum, in conjunction with community stakeholders, uses this information to advocate for a greater investment of public resources in Latino communities through legislative and administrative advocacy with state leaders.
