Mission:
The Latino Policy Forum builds the power, influence, and leadership of the Latino community to ensure the well-being of its community and society. Through advocacy and analysis, the Forum builds a foundation of equity, justice, and economic prosperity for the Latino community. By catalyzing policy change, the Forum works to improve education outcomes, increase access to affordable housing, advance just immigration policies, and strengthens community leadership. The Illinois Latino Agenda 2.0 is a project of the Forum that will work under the direction of the ILA 2.0 steering committee of community leaders.
Illinois Latino Agenda Purpose and Goals:
Illinois Latino Agenda is a coalition that works to advance the economic, political, and social prosperity of the Latino community. Illinois Latino Agenda advocates for:
- Equitable representation of Latinos in the government, business, philanthropic and social impact sectors.
- Equitable investment and allocation of resources to Latino communities.
- Strengthening the political and electoral power of Latinos.
- Advancing the civil rights, social justice, and protection for all Latino communities.
- Upholding the diverse cultural identity of all Latino communities.
- Strengthening and supporting Latino-owned businesses and entrepreneurs.
The ILA 2.0 advocates for action that promotes and respects the dignity and worth of all Latino/a/x communities. The Illinois Latino Agenda is a non-partisan coalition that stands in solidarity with the indigenous, Black, LGBTQ+ and other disenfranchised communities seeking equity, inclusion, and social justice.
Job Summary
The ILA 2.0 Manager/Organizer will staff the project, working with the steering committee to develop and implement a workplan based on the ILA goals.
Responsibilities
- Plan for, staff, and facilitate strategy discussions by Latino leaders to advocate for equitable investment in the Latino community.
- Plan for, staff and facilitates regular coalition and committee meetings.
- Advocate for Latino leadership representation in key public and private sector roles.
- Facilitate the implementation of a collective policy agenda and legislative advocacy.
- Work with key partners and institutions to develop analysis, updates, reports, and policy recommendations for advancing Latino equity.
- Working with coalition partners, increase the visibility of Illinois Latino Agenda to appropriate institutions.
- Develop and maintain key relationships with city and state officials.
- Collecting, synthesizing, and disseminating data and salient information.
- Conduct research on issues as needed.
- Conduct outreach for membership recruitment and ensure coalition sustainability through collection of membership dues.
- Maintain a database of Latinos for government positions and identify a process for vetting candidates for key roles.
- Maintain membership and dues structure of the coalition.
- Ensure coordination and strategy for website, social media, and outreach.
Qualifications
Master’s degree in Public Policy or related social science field or equivalent work experience. Nonprofit and/or work in the Latino community is a plus. Demonstrated leadership/supervisory skills within an organization. Experience in public policy and/or community organizing. Superior written/oral communications, interpersonal skills, and public speaking. Experience with all Windows/Microsoft Office applications and Salesforce contact management. Minimum of 3 years related experience in nonprofit and/or work in Latino community. Superior communications and interpersonal skills. Bilingual Spanish/English a plus.
Physical requirements
Must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily with reasonable accommodations. Work is generally done sitting, talking, hearing, and typing. Visual acuity to use a keyboard, prepare and analyze data and figures; transcribing, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
Work environment
Work is regularly performed in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment. Due to the pandemic, this position is temporarily remote. The Forum will continue to monitor guidance from government and health officials and the need for remote work arrangements.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary begins at $50K, commensurate on experience.
