Who’s on the ballot?

Election Day is March 15 for the 2016 Primary. As the day approaches, it is critical that every voter become informed not only about the candidates on their ballot, but also where to vote and find useful resources.

To help navigate election season, the Forum has created a quick guide. Check out the breakdown below:

Are you registered to vote?

To confirm your registration in Illinois, click here. Enter your First Name, Last Name and Zip Code and select “Submit.” If you are registered, your information along with your designated polling place will appear.

Don’t see your name? If you are not registered, missed the deadline or have changed your name/address since the last election, you can still vote!

Here are your options:

  • Grace Period Registration and Voting: Grace Period Registration is an extension to the regular registration deadline. From February 17 to March 15, the grace period allows voters to register and early vote until the Monday before an election. Guidelines limit when and where grace period registrants can vote.
  • Same-Day Voter Registration: The Illinois State Board of Elections will be conducting same-day voter registration at polling place locations. Prospective voters can register or update voter information and still cast their ballot the same day. Valid identification will be required for registration.

Find out more about same-day voter registration here.

Who are my elected officials?

Ready to vote? Before hitting the voting booths, check out your current district officials.

Enter your address and click “Find Address.” Once you verify, click “Confirm Address” to see the full list of representatives currently in office.

Who’s on the ballot?

With the 2016 primary ballot deciding State’s Attorney, Representatives, Senator, Judges and more, it is essential to know who each candidate is and what their stances are on important issues. An unofficial ballot is made available prior to entering the voting booth, allowing voters to research each candidate beforehand.

Need more information on the candidates? Get informed. Several organizations, like Ballot Ready, now offer free, nonpartisan information on candidates in your area.

Where do I vote?

Early voting is now being offered at 51 locations through March 14. Residents can vote at any early voting location within their county. For a list of all voting locations in your area, click here.

Note: If you are 17 now, but will be 18 by Election Day for the general election on November 8, you can vote in the primary election.
