Many of you came to know Richard through the Latino Policy Forum, either through your involvement with the Multicultural Leadership Academy or the Illinois Latino Agenda. If you had the honor of knowing him, you know that he was a gifted teacher and facilitator who was passionate about guiding and nurturing others in their journeys to realizing their gifts as leaders.
I will deeply miss my friend and mentor but will never forget how he encouraged us to think beyond the norms and contemplate our legacies. Looking back on Richard’s incredible life, it’s clear to me that he lived his life this way. As our ancestor, I will remember him as the person that lifted people up, was humble and extended grace to others, and who believed in everyone’s potential to be a catalyst for change.
On behalf of the Latino Policy Forum, I extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife Mary, his children and grandchildren, who Richard loved and cherished. His legacy lives on in them and the many people whose lives he left an indelible mark on.
Richard, as you join your ancestors, I want to thank you for living your life joyfully and courageously, and for showing us what it means to be the ancestor our communities need.
