Latino Policy Forum Statement on 2024
Presidential Election

“I want those in our community who are worried about their safety and the safety of their families to know this: The Latino Policy Forum has always spoken truth, advocated for justice, acted with civility and integrity, and put trust in democracy. We are here for you.”

CHICAGO – Early this morning, former President Donald Trump was declared the winner of the 2024 presidential election.

Latino Policy Forum President and CEO, Sylvia Puente, issued the following statement:

“This election reinforces that Latino voters are not a monolith, there is great diversity within the Latino community. As such, my biggest takeaway from this election is that many Latino voters are similar to the majority of voters who are most concerned about their pocketbooks. A lot of Latinos, like many Americans, are struggling to meet their basic needs, food and housing.

“In education and immigration, two of the Forum’s core issues, we are very concerned about changes to education policy which threatens the future education of our children, as well as threats against immigrants, and racial profiling of people with long-term roots in the United States. We are also very concerned about the use of rhetoric, fear tactics, and misinformation that emboldens hate. The Forum will be vigilant and will do everything we can to ensure respect and safety for the Latino and immigrant community and provide resources and information.

“I want those in our community who are worried about their safety and the safety of their families to know this: The Latino Policy Forum has always spoken truth, advocated for justice, acted with civility and integrity, and put trust in democracy. We are here for you.”
