Early Childhood Workshops

Making Positive Connections That Will Last a Lifetime

Long-standing studies find that birth to age five is one of the most important years for influencing the foundation of a child’s learning. This workshop will focus on helping parents support their child’s developmental areas: cognitive, linguistic, physical, and social-emotional. Parents will be equipped to support their children and increase their school readiness by turning daily activities into learning experiences for their children.

Mental Health and Wellbeing

Research strongly correlates economic adversity with students’ academic risk along with social-emotional difficulties. A student’s basic needs and social-emotional health must be fully supported in order for them to learn. This workshop will help parents identify the unique stressors of their experience and outline stress management skills, including those that can be used remotely and in person. It will also help parents establish a daily routine to promote well-being at home and support their children’s learning. In addition, parents will be informed about mental health and community resources.

The Power of Enrolling Your Child in a Pre-K Program with Bilingual Education Services

Parents will be informed about the current research of the University of Chicago School Research Consortium and what it means for young students who come from diverse linguistic backgrounds. The workshop will review the long-term impacts of bilingual education from pre-K through eighth grade. In addition, this session will equip parents and caregivers with tools to be advocates for their children’s education.

Early Childhood Advocacy 101

The Advocacy 101 training is designed to provide an overview to staff of educational organizations and families on the importance of advocacy, particularly as it relates to the involvement of elected officials. This training provides an overview of the importance of advocacy, budgeting, and the legislative process in the state of Illinois, and the communication tools that can be used to build buy-in around particular issues in education.

Understanding our Children: Child and Adolescent Development

Child and adolescent development is a complex process that encompasses several aspects of a child’s life, including academic performance, relationships with parents, and relationships with peers. Understanding the development of children and adolescents is crucial for parents, educators, and caregivers to provide appropriate support and guidance. By understanding the different stages of development, adults can create environments that foster children’s growth, learning, and positive relationships.

English Learners: Who are they and How do we support them

English learners face unique challenges in acquiring language skills while also learning academic content. Effective instruction for English learners incorporates language development and content learning. Collaboration between educators, families, and communities is essential to supporting English learners. This presentation provides a comprehensive understanding of all components within Bilingual Education programs.
