Submit Public Comments to Oppose the Public Charge

There is still time to submit public comments to denounce the Trump Administration’s attempts to alter the Public Charge rule to target immigrant families and cripple Illinois’ economy. The deadline for providing comments is December 10, and you can do so by clicking HERE or text Public Charge to 69866.

The proposed rule change is already having devastating consequences and families are making the impossible choice between their public services needs and endangering their chances of gaining legal permanent residence in the United States.

More than 100 people braved chilly, 30-degree temperatures on Wednesday night to attend a candlelight vigil to draw attention to the upcoming deadline and the need for Americans to stand up and oppose the White House’s racist and classist agenda.

The proposed Public Charge test is already prompting some families to disenroll from crucial benefits out of fear and confusion.

The Latino Policy Forum has been actively engaged with the Protecting Immigrant Families (PIF) Illinois coalition of service providers, activists, legislators, and others who are against the proposed changes.
