Forum Mission

Through advocacy and analysis, the Forum builds a foundation for equity, justice, and economic prosperity for the Latino community. By catalyzing policy change, the Forum works to improve education outcomes, advocate for affordable housing, promote just immigration policies and strengthen community leadership.

Position Summary

The Forum is seeking a detail-oriented Accountant to join our organization. As an integral part of the team, the Accountant will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the organization’s financial records. The ideal candidate will have expertise in accounting principles (ideally nonprofit), financial reporting, and proficiency in FundEZ.

Responsibilities

Financial Record Maintenance:

  • Record and maintain accurate financial transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries.
  • Reconcile monthly bank statements to ensure accuracy and identify discrepancies.
  • Ensure timely recording of expenses, donations, and other revenue sources.

Budgeting and Financial Planning:

  • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of annual budgets.
  • Collaborate with department heads to ensure expenses align with budgetary guidelines.
  • Provide financial data to support forecasting and strategic planning.

Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare accurate and timely financial reports.
  • Assist in preparing grant-specific financial reports and ensuring compliance with funder guidelines.
  • Present financial information to management and the Board as needed.

Compliance and Audit Preparation:

  • Ensure all financial transactions adhere to nonprofit accounting standards (GAAP) and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare for and support external audits by maintaining organized and up-to-date records.
  • Stay informed on relevant financial and tax regulations impacting nonprofit organizations.

Grant and Fund Accounting:

  • Track and manage all grant-related financial activities, including reporting on restricted and unrestricted funds.
  • Prepare grant budgets and track grant expenditures to ensure compliance with donor requirements.

Payroll and Benefits:

  • Manage payroll processes, ensuring timely and accurate employee compensation.
  • Oversee the reconciliation of payroll and benefits accounts, including taxes and withholdings.

Internal Controls and Policies:

  • Support the development and maintenance of internal controls to safeguard financial resources.
  • Ensure the implementation and adherence of policies and procedures that enhance financial efficiency and accuracy.

Other

  • Work with Associate Director of Operations to assess and ensure cyber and IT safety.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Proven experience as an Accountant, preferably in a nonprofit setting.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in FundEz or equivalent is essential.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members.
  • CPA certification is a plus

Physical Requirements

Must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily with reasonable accommodations. Work is generally done sitting, talking, hearing, and typing. Visual acuity to use a keyboard, prepare and analyze data and figures; transcribing, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.

Work Environment

Work is regularly performed in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment. This Forum is on a hybrid schedule – three days in the office, two days remote.

Compensation and Benefits
