Community Engagement Manager
POSITION TITLE: Community Engagement Manager, Full-time (Exempt)

STARTING SALARY: $62,000, plus commensurate with experience

The mission of the Latino Policy Forum is to build the power, influence, and leadership of the Latino community through collective action to transform public policies that ensure the well-being of its community and society as a whole. Through advocacy and analysis, the Forum builds a foundation for equity, justice, and economic prosperity for the Latino community. By catalyzing policy change, the Forum works to improve education outcomes, advocate for affordable housing, promote just immigration policies and strengthen community leadership.
The vision of the Forum’s education team is to ensure that Latinos and English Learners have equitable educational opportunities across the education spectrum leading to economic prosperity. The goal is to increase college readiness and improve college completion rates for Latinos in Illinois. The education team engages in this work by convening the community and key stakeholders, using legislative advocacy, and engaging in strategic research, policy, and practice partnerships.
Duties and Responsibilities
Community Engagement, Policy, and Advocacy (80%)
- Educate and inform the community by designing and delivering presentations and other initiatives regarding education-related topics. This includes planning and preparing logistics, conducting workshops in Spanish and English for various stakeholders, and evaluating the effectiveness of workshops.
- Support the design and creation of materials, such as videos and graphics to promote the Ed Team’s agenda.
- Manage and support the higher education student advisory committee.
- Support students’ internships.
- Coordinate with Forum staff to disseminate information via social media, website updates, and other pertinent media outlets.
- Develop and assist with advocacy strategies and the implementation of policy proposals to advance the organization’s P-20 agenda.
- Assist with special group convenings, such as K-12 districts, higher education institutions, and the Education Acuerdo. (Acuerdo – A working group of ECE community leaders that inform the development of the Forum’s advocacy agenda and policy recommendations.)
- Contribute to reports and data analysis as appropriate.
- Travel, as needed, to advance the Forum’s policy agenda with relevant stakeholders.
- Recruit stakeholders to provide oral and written testimony for various advisory bodies and the general assembly.
Administrative Duties (20%)
- Oversee all aspects of the education grants calendar.
- Organize the logistics of team meetings and bi-monthly board reports.
Qualifications
- BA required; master’s degree preferred.
- Strong creative communication skills and experience with social media.
- Experience/knowledge with training, community involvement, and related issues.
- Experience with public speaking and making presentations to the public.
- Well-organized, self-starter, adaptable in challenging situations; able to manage multiple tasks and respond to diverse individuals’/communities’ needs.
- Ability to collaborate and work effectively in a team.
- Bilingual Spanish-English required (written and spoken).
Requirements
- Must have a valid Illinois driver’s license and proof of insurance
- Must be able to use own vehicle in the course of work
- Must be able to travel to outlying areas beyond Metropolitan Chicago
Exceptional candidates will have:
- Bilingual -Spanish/English (written and spoken).
- Quorum, Salesforce, Adobe Suite.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily with reasonable accommodations. Work is generally done sitting, talking, hearing, and typing. Visual acuity to use a keyboard, prepare and analyze data and figures; transcribing, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
Work Environment
Work is regularly performed in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment. Due to the pandemic, this position is on a temporary hybrid schedule. The Forum will continue to monitor guidance from government and health officials and the need for hybrid arrangements.
Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary is $62,000, plus commensurate with experience.
